About the Museum
The Asia Society Museum organizes groundbreaking special exhibitions of both traditional and contemporary art, as well as displays of masterpieces from its permanent collection, the Mr. and Mrs. John D. Rockefeller, III Collection. Comprised of fewer than 300 objects, it is nevertheless considered one of the most notable collections of Asian art in the United States, including objects from Pakistan to Japan to Java that date from the 11th century B.C. to the 19th century A.D. Its particular strengths are in Chinese ceramics of the Song and Ming periods, Chola-period Indian bronzes and Southeast Asian sculptures. This museum also features an impressive collection of video and new media art by contemporary Asian and Asian-American artists.
