About the Museum

Chatsworth, the magnificent stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire in Derbyshire, England, has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The house contains one of the most important private collections in Britain, with works of art spanning 4,000 years of history – from ancient Roman and Egyptian sculpture, and masterpieces by Rembrandt, Reynolds and Veronese, to work by outstanding modern artists, including Lucian Freud, Edmund de Waal and David Nash. Since 2006, Sotheby’s and Chatsworth have co-hosted Beyond Limits, an annual exhibition of monumental sculptures on expansive grounds of the great estate.
