About the Museum

The Colección de la Real Academia de la Historia began as a literary gathering of friends, in the year 1735. The participants addressed Philip V to authorize their meetings and the monarch granted their protection. With this, the Royal Academy of History was founded. Since being granted authority by Felipe V on June 17, 1738, the Academy has enjoyed royal protection. The Royal Academy of History operates on grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports and the Bank of Spain, as well as contributions from private protectors and benefactors.
