Édouard Manet’s A Bar at the Folies-Bergère alone is worth the trip to London, but this renowned gallery also features other Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces – among the most iconic in the world – as well as other great treasures of the ages. All of these are set in the 18th-century splendour of Somerset House on the banks of the Thames, which makes for a blessedly intimate viewing experience. The Courtauld is among the finest small museums in the world; and devotees of Peter Paul Rubens, Edgar Degas, Paul Cézanne, the Renaissance and Modernism will be thrilled.
