About the Museum
The Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) holds the largest public collection of contemporary artists working in Mexico. Represented are leading artists from a variety of artistic movements, both mainstream and underground. Inaugurated in 2008 and already an important Mexico City cultural landmark, the museum is set within the context of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) – the largest and most prestigious public university in Latin America. In 2004, the acquisition program formally began to gather pieces produced from 1952 onward that have been relevant to the development of Mexican art. The collection, which is continually growing, aims to document the history of contemporary art in Mexico, including painting, sculpture, photography, video, installations and the graphic arts.
