About the Museum

The Botanical Museum "Dr. João Barbosa Rodrigues " (Museu Botânico Dr. João Barbosa Rodrigues), inaugurated in 1942, is a teaching device that makes up the central visitation center of the JBSP. It has a permanent exhibition that covers the history of the Botanical Garden Institute and Botany in Brazil. It has a collection of fruits and seeds, wood and essential oils. In the interactive totem it is possible to access various information about the Botanical Garden and research developed.

In addition to the botanical aspects treated by biology teachers, teachers in the area of History, Geography and Portuguese also find several facilitating elements to address contents such as: historical contexts from the 16th century to the 21st century; great scientific expeditions; geographical distribution of Atlantic and Cerrado biomes; descriptive, narrative, and dissertative texts and in the historical documents can be discussed the evolution of the Portuguese language, orthographic changes, etc.
