About the Museum

The São Paulo Museum of Modern Art (MAM) is a non-profit museum founded in 1948. The MAM collection contains more than 5000 modern and contemporary–mostly Brazilian—works of art. Both the collection and exhibitions give special emphasis to the experimental, and welcome the diverse nature of art around the world. The museum also features a large sculpture garden which was designed by Roberto Burle Marx to house works from the MAM collection. Inaugurated in 1993, it has 30 sculptures in its 6000 square meters, and is one of Brazil’s principal open-air art collections.
