Laws of Motion in a Cartoon Landscape: Andy Holden

22 September–18 November 2018

Exhibition Overview

Andy Holden, Installation View of Laws of Motion in a Cartoon Landscape, 2011-16.

For MOCA’s grand opening, Floor 5 is also programmed with a work that will appeal to children and adults alike. In Laws of Motion in a Cartoon Landscape, an animated version of the artist Andy Holden guides us through the laws of physics in cartoons with characters including Bugs Bunny and Wile E. Coyote.

Drawing on the work of Greek philosophers, Stephen Hawking and our current political landscape, Holden identifies and unpicks ten laws of cartoon physics, the first of which is that “anybody suspended in space will remain in space until made aware of their situation.”

The main feature starts on the hour.
