About the Museum

From Mies van der Rohe’s famous Four Seasons chair to Billy Jean King’s Philadelphia Freedoms tennis dress, the New York Historical Society’s broad collection encompasses, art, design and significant artefacts that represent the city’s rich history. Recent renovations have seen new displays for the museum’s extensive holdings of Tiffany lamps, with a particular focus on the work of Clara Driscoll, and a new Center for Women’s History including a display entitled Saving Washington that tells the story of First Lady Dolley Madison’s significant contributions to the development of American democracy.
