About the Museum
Nikolaj Kunsthal is an art center that allows visitors to experience Danish and international contemporary art in unique historical surroundings. The art center is located in the old Church of Saint Nicholas, which dates back to the 13th century and is Copenhagen’s third oldest church. Since 1805, the building has functioned as a fire station, naval museum and a public library. In 1957, Knud Pederson founded an art library in the building, and it has served as a key contemporary art space in Copenhagen ever since. Nikolaj Kunsthal now hosts rotating exhibitions, concerts, artist talks, performances, and many other programs and events. Innovative and engaging contemporary art exhibitions interact with the historic architecture, providing a unique art-viewing experience.
