About the Museum

Where the borders of Denmark and Northern Germany meet, a dwelling called Seebüll Warft gently rises above the vast marshlands. This is where Emil Nolde, one of the most significant Expressionist painters, lived and worked amidst a magnificent flower garden from 1927 to 1956. Seebüll is the place Nolde loved most, and there’s no better way to discover the painter and the person, his way of life and world-famous works of art than to visit. With its yearly changing exhibitions and lush garden, Nolde’s historic residence and studio invite guests to enjoy the experience and follow in his footsteps. Another highlight is the upper-storey forum with its introductory biographical exhibit featuring the Nolde film: Dreams by the Sea.
