Contemporary Japanese Art

1 June–1 September 2019

Exhibition Overview

Contemporary Japanese Art

A collective exhibition of contemporary Japanese artists. A personal world filled with evocative, futuristic – and almost poetic – visions. The new generations of Japanese artists question themselves as to the frontier between imagination and perception, creating a gentle, dream-like world. At times, their peculiarity lies in the originality and impact of images from popular Japanese culture, standing somewhere between tradition and innovation.

Following the narrative line begun with Expo 2015, the summer exhibition season will explore other continents by means of contemporary art, aiming to analyse the cultures of specific countries – though with no claim to thoroughness. The collective exhibitions devoted to contemporary Brazilian (2018) and Japanese (2019) art fall into this line.
