THE ARTIST PROJECT: Hiroshi Sugimoto on "Bamboo in the Four Seasons," Attributed to Tosa Mitsunobu

“It's almost like conceptual art to me.” Though photographs frequently capture moments in time, Sugimoto’s long-term exposures are designed to capture the passage of time in a single image. The Japanese photographer explains his fascination with Tosa Mitsnobo’s Bamboo in the Four Seasons, a 15th century painted screen that depicts the passage of history in a single grove of bamboo trees. This video was produced by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
