As the second-largest art museum in the U.S., the Art Institute of Chicago features a wide-ranging collection of 54,000 works encompassing many cultures around the globe. Among its strengths is one of the world’s great collections of Impressionist paintings, featuring masterpieces by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Georges Seurat and Vincent van Gogh. Also of great interest are the important collections of Modern and contemporary masters, housed in the critically acclaimed Modern Wing. The Institute is also an art school, which has helped to shape the visions of many of the area’s superb talents. Arriving at the Institute is an experience in its own right: one walks from Millennium Park over a spectacular pedestrian bridge.
