An inspired presentation of superb works of classical Modernism, this is the legendary collection assembled over 50 years by the husband-and-wife team of art dealers, Hildy and Ernst Beyeler. Set in a verdant park, the bright modern structure designed by Renzo Piano fulfills their dream of an exciting synthesis of nature, daylight and art. Prized paintings by such early masters as Paul Cézanne, Pierre Bonnard, Piet Mondrian, Jean Dubuffet and Fernand Leger dominate the space, while post-war masters and African and Oceanic sculptures round out the collection with stunning aesthetic coherence.
