About the Museum
The Kunstmuseum Basel houses one of the largest and oldest collections in Europe and holds a vast collection of works by Hans Holbein the Younger. The core of the collection is made up by Old Masters but also features modern works including pieces from noteworthy contemporary artists including Andy Warhol and Cy Twombly.
The Kunstmuseum Basel’s has evolved to house the growing historic span of works. In 2016 the Kunstmuseum Basel underwent a transformation and a new building was erected opposite the main building specifically for special exhibitions and collection presentations. The new building opened with an exhibition of figurative works by Jackson Pollock and the organisation continues to present visitors with ambitious exhibitions.
