Originally founded in 1956 by Argentinian art critic Rafael Squirru at the Whitcomb Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires is now housed in a former tobacco factory in San Telmo. The museum's collection boasts over 7,000 works of modern Argentine art from the 1920s to the present, including works by Emilio Pettoruti, Xul Solar, Enio Iommi, Romulo Macció, and Antonio Berni. Following a renovation and reopening in 2010 that created several stunning new gallery spaces, the museum has programmed exhibitions showcasing the work of emerging young artists and retrospectives of internationally acclaimed artists such as Paul Klee, Julio Le Parc, and Juan del Prete.
