Museum of Art and History

About the Museum

The Museum of Art and History is one of the largest museums in Switzerland. With some 650,000 objects, including masterpieces and rare objects, it includes five floors of collections devoted to applied arts, fine arts and archaeology. Each year, the museum also presents a dozen temporary exhibitions ranging from Picasso to Roger Pfund to Akhenaton.

A short walk from the cathedral, the Museum of Art and History is located in the heart of the Old Town. Dated 1910, its building was designed by architect Marc Camoletti.

On some 7000 m2, the Museum of Art and History invites the visitor to journey through time. Painting, sculptures, historical rooms and objects, musical instruments, etc., are all testimonials that reveal the evolution of art over several millennium.
