Situated in Zurich’s beautiful Rieterpark, the Rietberg Museum comprises a vast collection of Asian, African, American and Oceanic art. Its neoclassical building was once occupied by the wealthy Rieter family before being sold to the city of Zurich as a home for the collections of banker and patron Baron Eduard von der Heydt. Highlights include one of Europe’s best collections of Buddhist art; the world-famous Meiyintang collection of Chinese ceramics, which includes cups from the Neolithic era and magnificent Tang Dynasty pieces; and a large selection of 19th-century Swiss carnival masks.
