About the Museum
Famous for its impressive David Chipperfield interiors the Neues Museum is home to one of the world’s most important collections of Egyptian art and the famous bust of Nefertiti. The collection also includes extensive holdings of papyrus, sculpture and mummies that span four millennia of Egyptian and Nubian culture. These are displayed alongside classical antiquities such as Schliemann’s artefacts from Troy and Bronze Age and Iron Age objects. The museum also focuses on the history of collecting with a display dedicated to the original craze for Egyptology and a recreation of the museum’s original cabinets that bring to life the typical 19th century collector’s aesthetic.
