From Sumatra to Papua, through Java and the Moluccas: ancestors played and still play a leading role in Indonesia. The cults that are worn and their representations reflect with force and poetry the enormous diversity of the country. This exhibition presents a captivating introduction to Indonesia, presenting its heritage and also questioning the place of traditions and rituals within a contemporary society. Archaeological and ethnographic treasures will be presented for the first time, and set in context with unique iconographic documents and interviews.
In collaboration with the National Museum of Jakarta and many other collections from the four corners of the archipelago. Curator: Daud Tanudirjo, Advisors: Pieter TerKeurs, Francine Brinkgreve.
