About the Museum
This museum focuses on the creation of art in the present moment. It advocates and presents the contemporary art practices of Singapore, Southeast Asia and the rest of Asia, situating them within the global context of art-making today. SAM has built one of the most important collections of contemporary art from the region, and its programming aims to introduce new artistic practices and styles to the public, as well as nurture discerning contemporary art audiences. SAM is also the organiser of Singapore Biennale 2013 and 2016.
Launching on January 12th, the Singapore Art Museum will present "SAM Late Nights," a monthly programme featuring free museum entry, extended museum opening hours, meet-the-curator sessions, and pop-up live visual and music performances. Taking place on the second Friday of every month, the first three sessions of “SAM Late Nights” will take place on 12 January, 9 February and 9 March at SAM at 8Q, the annexe building located at 8 Queen Street, Singapore 188535. “SAM Late Nights” are free entry for all, as admission to SAM is complimentary for Singaporeans and permanent residents throughout the year, and all other visitors enjoy free entry to the museum every Friday evening from 6pm to 9pm (U.P. $6 for foreigners, $3 for students and seniors).
