Sex, Death and Sculpture: Cathie Pilkington’s Top Shelf
Many visitors to Cathie Pilkington’s studio assume the British sculptor has collected the objects that decorate her space, but each piece is one of her original creations. In this video, Pilkington installs a new work in the Academicians’ Room at the Royal Academy, and discusses why sculpture is the idiot cousin of painting, the “libidinous urge” to create it and why it’s a medium that is uniquely placed to help us make sense of life’s big questions. This video was produced by the Royal Academy of Arts.
