THE ARTIST PROJECT: Jeffrey Gibson on Vanuatu Slit Gongs
“I had no idea that these were gongs, and without that knowledge I was really always able to look at them as sculptures.” As an artist of Native American descent, Jeffrey Gibson has reveled in the childlike playfulness and traditional function of the towering slit gongs of northern Vanuatu in the Metropolitan. This video was produced by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
